Container Terminology
A shipping container is a large, standardized box used for transporting goods by ship, train, or truck.
So many different names:
- “C-cans”
- “Sea Cans”
- “Storage Bins”
In the past, Connex boxes were a type of shipping container manufactured by one specific company. Now that there are many manufacturers making shipping containers, people tend to just refer to any old storage container as a “connex box”. So while you may hear us say it sometimes (especially on our Facebook page) we don’t like to use this term because it confuses people – they think all Connexes are made by one company when in fact they aren’t! If someone asks for a quote on renting or buying a connex box from BigSteelBox and is surprised at the price comparison with other suppliers, that could be why…
If you’re in the business of moving shipping containers, it is important to know how your clients refer to them. The term “sea can” is not as widely used in Canada as other terms like C-Can or storage bin. It is also common for customers to use the name of a specific manufacturer when referring to their containers such as ISO Container, Intermodal Container or High Cube Storage Container. Depending on where you are located and who your clientele are, they may just refer to them as “storage bins” or even simply “containers”!
C-Can, or containers (also called Sea Can), have become the most common type of storage container. They are made from steel and can be used for both short term and long term storage purposes. C-cans are available in sizes ranging from 5'X8', to 40'X8'. The size you need depends on what you plan on storing inside your container. They offer a variety of advantages over other types of storage units, such as portability and security. You can move them easily with a forklift or truck because they're equipped with locking bars that secure the doors shut when closed properly. This is one reason why people use them for construction sites where equipment needs to be moved frequently. Another advantage is that C-can storage containers protect your belongings better than other types of storage options like garages or sheds since they're made out of steel which doesn't rot or deteriorate over time like wood does. They also provide more protection against weather elements and pests since they have tight fitting doors and are sealed completely when closed properly.
Why Do I Need a Shipping Container? Do you have materials that need storing but no place to put them? A shipping container could be an ideal solution for you! There are many reasons why people rent storage containers including:
Moving House or Flat – If you are moving home and need a place to store your belongings, a shipping container could be the solution for you. They can be used as long-term storage for all of your belongings until you have moved into your new property. This means that if there is any delay with the move, it will not cause any problems with storage. Decluttering – Decluttering can often mean getting rid of items that we no longer need but do not want to throw away such as old furniture, clothes and books. Renting a shipping container allows us to declutter our homes without having to get rid of everything! It also gives us peace of mind knowing that our belongings are stored safely and securely whilst we decide what we want to keep and what we would like to get rid of. Renovating Your Home – If you are renovating your home, it is likely that some areas will be out of bounds whilst the work is taking place which could cause issues with storage. A shipping container can provide you with an ideal solution by giving you somewhere safe and secure to store all of your belongings whilst the work is being carried out on your property.
We also sell used shipping containers. Used containers have typically been used to ship cargo overseas. They are well-constructed and can be converted into a storage shed or workshop, among other things. Contact Us for More Information on Shipping Containers in Nambour
While the best way to protect your stored goods is with a weather and rodent-proof storage container, there are other ways you can keep your belongings safe from rodents. Here are some tips: Keep food in airtight containers: Store all of your food—dry goods, cereals, crackers, etc.—in airtight plastic or metal containers with tight fitting lids. This will prevent rodents from getting into the food and contaminating it. Seal up any cracks and holes: Inspect your home for any cracks or holes that might provide an entry point for rodents. Use caulk or steel wool to seal up these openings.
If you’re looking to buy a shipping container, beware of scams that can be costly and time-consuming. We have heard stories of people who have been scammed out of their money by dishonest sellers who sold them containers that were not as described or didn’t exist at all. Here are some tips to help you avoid being scammed when buying a shipping container:
Do your research. Be sure to check out the company you’re buying from thoroughly before making a purchase. Ask around for recommendations, read online reviews, and make sure the company is reputable. Get everything in writing. Make sure you get a contract that outlines the terms of your purchase, including the price, delivery date, and any other important details. This will help protect you if something goes wrong. Inspect the container before you buy it. If possible, inspect the container before you buy it to make sure it’s in good condition. Check for rust, dents, and other damage that could affect its usability or resale value. Don’t pay upfront. Avoid paying for your container upfront – most reputable companies will allow you to pay after delivery. If a company insists on payment beforehand, be wary of doing business with them

The main advantage of used containers is that they are significantly cheaper than new containers. Used containers can be bought for as little as half the price of a new container. They can also be customized more easily, for example by adding windows or painting them in a different color.
A used container will have several holes, which can be patched with a kit from any hardware store. To avoid rusting out the inside of the box, you should also line it with heavy-duty plastic sheeting (available at most home improvement stores). Some people take advantage of the fact that containers are made to be watertight by filling them partway and then using them as swimming pools.
There are some disadvantages to using used containers, however. They may not be as strong or watertight as new containers, and they may not have all the features that you need (such as doors that open the full width of the container).
Used containers can be purchased for a fraction of the cost and are often available for immediate delivery. New Shipping Containers – One-Trip or New Used? One-trip new shipping containers are only used once to ship goods from overseas before being sold in the US market. This makes them an excellent value as they have no wear and tear on them from multiple uses. They’re also typically constructed with higher quality materials than older, used models so that you can expect many years of use out of your container(s). New one-trip containers will always be priced higher than used shipping containers but if they fit within your budget we recommend going this route – especially if you need more than one unit.
